VIP-WECO Provides Watertight Repair for Damaged Underground Sump Tank
A Challenging Underground Repair
A fractured and partially collapsed underground sump tank presented the repair team with a difficult problem. Parts of the tank had become badly deformed, creating an uneven internal surface around the damaged area. The repair needed to stop the leak and provide a reliable watertight seal, but removing and replacing the complete underground tank would have required considerably more excavation, time and disruption.
Restricted Access and an Irregular Shape
Confined access made the work even more challenging. Fines deposits had also built up around the deformed sections, preventing the tank from being fully returned to its original shape. Rather than working with a clean, uniform surface, the repair team needed a system capable of sealing effectively against the irregular internal profile that remained.

A Flexible Internal Sealing Solution
The flexibility of the VIP-WECO system made it well suited to the application. The sealing element could adapt to the uneven shape of the tank and create a watertight seal across the fractured area. By completing the repair from inside the structure, the team was able to target the damaged section without the need for more extensive excavation or complete tank replacement.
Reinforcing the Completed Repair
Once the leaking area had been sealed, additional stainless steel support rings were installed inside the tank. These rings provided reinforcement and helped restore structural integrity to the damaged structure. The completed project demonstrates how VIP-WECO can provide a practical no-dig solution for unusual repair situations where access is restricted and standard circular pipe conditions do not apply.
